DC is home to its fair share of legacy family developers. Some of its most prominent development booms, like post-World War II, have been championed by a select few individuals, who have passed on the family business for generations.
Founders: Warren and Myrtle Hitt
Famous Properties: HITT Contracting doesn’t own signature properties, but it has built more than its fair share. The Falls Church-based construction company has built Time Warner Cable’s Reston office, Verizon’s $187M data center campus in Culpeper, the Arlington Mill Community Center and the Montgomery County Conference Center and Hotel in Bethesda.
Famous Members: Russell Hitt, Warren and Myrtle’s son, has been atop the construction giant since 1978. His son, Brett, and son-in-law, Jim Millar, are the co-presidents beneath him and figure to be his successors. That's Jim on the left and Brett on the right.
