Inova Women's & Children's Hospital Patient Unit

A LEED Silver-designed fit-out of shell space on the seventh floor of the Women’s & Children's Hospital at Inova Fairfax provided 48 patient rooms with the necessary storage, nurse stations, staff support, and patient lobby areas. The modern aesthetic meets the new design standards being implemented throughout the Inova Health System.

The project navigated the 24/7 active units on the floor above and below. The hammer drilling for MEP supports was coordinated and completed during specified time windows and in particular areas. The schedule was developed around noise constraints, with the eighth floor and below-slab plumbing rough-in work required on the sixth floor. The schedule was parsed out into three different stages to stagger the noisy activities, which allowed critical patients to be moved away from the noise.

NaVvis Works 3D modeling was used at the start of the project to verify slab conditions. The HITT team also built a unit mock-up for Inova doctors and staff to see before building out all the rooms.
