Military & Veterans

HITT is proud to actively support the US Armed Forces and has a long history of team members serving in the military throughout our more than 85 years in business. We encourage current military service members and veterans to apply to join our teams across the country.

From helmets to hard hats, HITT celebrates military experience.

HITT recognizes the importance of leadership, responsibility, and discipline that service members gain through military experience. These qualities make veterans ideal candidates for many opportunities within HITT. Military training provides these candidates with the advantage of core skill sets that directly transfer to the construction industry and our organization.

Our success can be directly related to the contributions of many former service members, and we're proud to be a military-friendly company. You'll be able to continue making a difference and put your skills and experience into action, adding value from day one.

HITT reinforces its support of the military by actively recruiting service members from all branches, including US Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard, and National Guard through military-focused career fairs and job boards. We also salute our active service and veteran team members by offering comprehensive support for their service commitments and an array of military-specific benefits.

Military-specific benefits

Leaves of absence

USERRA (Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act) provides for a leave of absence for a cumulative period of up to five years. Therefore, HITT team members who are called to qualified military service in the uniformed services are eligible under USERRA for a leave of absence of up to five years, and for certain benefits described below.

Job reinstatement and nondiscrimination

When the military duty leave ends, the length of time that team members have to contact HITT depends on the amount of time spent in service.

When returning from military leave, team members will be placed in the position they would have attained had they remained continuously employed or a comparable one, depending on the length of military service in accordance with USERRA. Team members will be treated as though they were continuously employed for purposes of determining benefits that are based on length of service.

Supplemental compensation

While on military leave, eligible team members will receive supplemental compensation for up to 20 work days each year. Supplemental compensation is the difference in compensation between military pay and what the team member would normally receive as base salary from HITT.

Reserve or National Guard training

Team members at Reserve or National Guard training will remain on the payroll and will continue to receive benefits. Team members will be paid the difference between their regular base salary and their regular base military salary for up to 20 days.

Paid time off / accrued leave

When a team member leaves the company to enter the military and returns to HITT after discharge (per USERRA guidelines), their time, up to 20 days, spent on military duty will be counted as service in determining the amount of accrued paid time off to which he or she is entitled to. Seniority continues to accrue.

Employee resource group

HITT prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion to create a space where we can build a brighter future where innovation and our differences can flourish. Our nationwide HITT Veterans employee resource group provides support and advocates for HITT team members who have honorably served in any branch of the US Armed Forces.
