Real Estate Bisnow, a leading online commercial real estate periodical, published its list of DC’s Top 10 Real Estates Dynasties and named HITT Contracting Chairman Russell Hitt and Co-Presidents Brett Hitt and Jim Millar among the most prominent families to shape the Washington, DC area’s commercial real estate landscape. DC is home to its fair share of legacy family developers. Some of its most prominent development booms, like post-World War II, have been championed by a select few individuals, who have passed on the family business for generations.
The Hitts
Founded: 1937
Founders: Warren and Myrtle Hitt
Famous Properties: HITT Contracting doesn’t own signature properties, but it has built more than its fair share. The Falls Church-based construction company has built Time Warner Cable’s Reston office, Verizon’s $187M data center campus in Culpeper, the Arlington Mill Community Center and the Montgomery County Conference Center and Hotel in Bethesda.
Famous Members: Russell Hitt, Warren and Myrtle’s son, has been atop the construction giant since 1978. His son, Brett, and son-in-law, Jim Millar, are the co-presidents beneath him and figure to be his successors. That’s Jim on the left and Brett on the right.
