Phase 1 site development included new roadways and a new entrance to the hospital campus, surface parking lot, utility infrastructure, and landscaping. Construction included a new main entrance canopy and entry vestibule to the existing hospital and Birthing Inn. Phase 2A construction included a new four-level, cast-in-place, post-tensioned concrete parking garage for 766 vehicles. The garage features an exterior precast brick façade with glass-enclosed stairwells. As a collaborative effort between HITT and HDR, the cast-in-place parking structure was designed to minimize the day-to-day maintenance using best-practice design and construction materials. Corrosion inhibitors in the concrete mix, epoxy-coated steel, waterproof traffic-bearing membranes, and positive drainage all reduce the potential for future corrosion. The exterior lighting highlights the entrance and access areas, and provides indirect building illumination. Pedestrian wayfinding was critical; HITT installed signage and graphic elements at the key access points in the building needed to identify major entrances, elevator and stair locations, and building directional information. Comprehensive phasing and logistics were required to coordinate vehicular and pedestrian traffic throughout construction.
