Overview

This confidential client, based in Washington, DC, has served the nation’s children since 1870. The client is Magnet-designated and is consistently ranked among the top pediatric hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. Home to the Research Institute and the Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation, this pediatric healthcare provider is one of the nation’s top NIH-funded pediatric institutions. With a community-based pediatric network, seven regional outpatient centers, an ambulatory surgery center, two emergency rooms, an acute care hospital, and collaborations throughout the region, they are recognized for their expertise and innovation in pediatric care and as an advocate for all children.

The Client's Sheikh Zayed Institute (SZI) for Surgical Innovation project was a nine-month, design-build, interior build-out. HITT transformed the existing core and shell of the sixth floor of the main building into a state-of-the-art lab and research area with a complete heat recovery system. The space supports large open lab areas and support labs as well as open office areas and private offices. The open lab area is surrounded by glass, which allows excellent views of the city. The 21,000-sf project was built to meet LEED Gold certification and also included a complete mechanical upgrade.
