Demanding Circularity with 13,600 Plastic Bottles

Co|Lab’s 800+ SF catwalk employs the first commercial test installation of Shaw Industries’ PET Resilient Flooring, a polyester-based resilient flooring product that uses recycled plastic bottles as a feedstock for its material composition. In this installation, an estimated 13,600 recycled bottles were used to make the product.

Manufactured from 40 percent post-consumer recycled content and being 100 percent recyclable at the end of its life, this Cradle to Cradle CertifiedTM Bronze product is generating market demand to support circularity and material health in the built environment. This product is also PVC-free and free of International Living Future Institute’s (ILFI) Red List ingredients.

Demand for circularity continues to grow across all industries, and building products are not exempt from this lens of responsibility. Focus on material procurement is shifting from cost-driven products to value-driven, especially as large corporate end-users make commitments to specify and select healthy materials that promote the health and productivity of workers. Supplying and demanding products that exclude carcinogens or endocrine disruptors will be paramount.
