The HITT Futures program was developed as an entry-level training and development initiative to help ambitious builders and recent grads gain the experience necessary to advance their construction careers. By providing field experience, education, and hands-on construction training, the HITT Futures program can take you to the next level in your career.

What is the HITT Futures Program?

Beginning as a management training program in 2005, the HITT Futures program has evolved over more than 20 years to be an immersive educational experience that has helped hundreds of recent high school and college graduates gain the field experience they need to develop and support their future careers in construction. By focusing on mentorship, hands-on learning, professional development, and personal growth, the structured program provides a fast track to promotion and success.

HITT Futures Program Phases: Your Construction Career Path

This paid program is broken up into four phases, each focusing on further developing and training individuals, allowing them to move forward in their careers. Ideal candidates for all roles are pursuing degrees in construction management, engineering, architecture, or project management. Military veterans are also welcomed in the early career phases.

Student Level: Construction Intern – Seasonal

CIs participate in a structured program that introduces them to HITT's culture and the construction industry. Rising college sophomores and juniors gain experience focusing on operations within an office setting, while seniors focus on-site operations, building hands-on experience on the jobsite.

  • 10-week seasonal summer position, including focused professional curriculum and operational training

  • Introduction to construction and HITT's culture, values, and history

  • Paired with a trained intern sponsor

  • Opportunities for industry networking, relationship building, and community service

  • Opportunities for site operations experience and on-site training for returning interns

Entry Level: Project Engineer/Site Engineer – Year 1 of 5-Year Program

HITT’s full-time, entry-level project engineer position is an exciting chance to learn The HITT Way and gain on-site experience under the leadership of a site operations team member to prepare for a future in construction management.

  • Full-time, hands-on work experience

  • One year on jobsites with project-related training and focused HITT University professional development courses

  • Exposure to site operations and operations

  • Assigned to a trained sponsor

  • Career choice opportunities

  • Specialty tracks offered (MEP, Preconstruction, Safety, Virtual Construction)

  • Streamlines opportunity into either Assistant Project Manager or Assistant Superintendent


For site engineers, both full-time and part-time entry-level options are available. If pursuing an associate’s degree, candidates must complete the degree and spend at least 18 months on-site as SE prior to promotion to assistant superintendent. If working full-time (40 hours/week) and not pursuing an associate’s degree, candidates must spend at least 36 months on-site as SE prior to promotion to assistant superintendent.

  • Full-time opportunity for high school graduates interested in construction careers

  • If pursuing higher education, schedule includes 24 hours/week on the jobsite and 16 hours/week in school (40 hours paid)

  • If forgoing higher education, schedule is 40 hours/week on the jobsite

  • Assigned to  trained sponsor

  • Exposure to site operations

  • Streamlines opportunity into an Assistant Superintendent role

Assistant Level: Assistant Project Manager/Assistant Superintendent – Years 2 & 3
  • Professional growth and relationship building

  • Opportunities for cross-training and leadership development

  • Candidates are typically in this role for 2-3 years

  • Opportunities to lead and develop seasonal intern team members

Management Level: Project Manager/ Superintendent – Years 4 & 5
  • Project independence and autonomy

  • Opportunities to lead and develop team members (PEs)

  • Build client relationships and support business development

  • Manage project scope

  • Implement and enforce all safety and quality control
